Apple Ginger Zinger Juice
I typically juice or make smoothies at least once a week. I have a juicer and a high speed blender. We also have a juice/smoothie bar at work as well. One of my favorite juices to make is an Apple Ginger Zinger. I had this at a grocery store in Chicago and came home and made it. Anytime I can add Ginger, Tumeric and/or Cayenne Pepper (all natural anti-inflammatories) in something, I’m all for it. Plus this juice tastes great and packs a punch. A great wake up drink as well.
I use Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, but if you want some extra zing, use 2 granny smith apples.
You can use regular ginger for this, but if you haven’t tried stem ginger, you are missing out. I buy Opies Stem Ginger, but I probably will be making it at home from now on so I can make it healthier with Agave Nectar. Stem ginger is actually a preserved ginger. You simply freeze the ginger in a freezer bag overnight to break down it’s cell structure. Remove from the freezer and peel the ginger. Cut it into large pieces and simmer in water until tender. Use the water to make a simple syrup. Return the ginger to the simple syrup and simmer for 20 minutes. Transfer to a sterilized jar. That’s it! It’s wonderful and provides so much ginger flavor.
You would think this would be a refreshing summer drink. It definitely is, but ginger, tumeric and cayenne are all anti-inflammatories, so when everything is aching during the cold months, this is a perfect drink to help with that. Additionally, apples have Vitamin C for immunity.
